Building a new home in the garden
Silver Birches is a bespoke detached home designed by Cotswold Architects within the rear garden of an existing property on Baunton Lane, Cirencester. The project illustrates the possibilities of garden plot development and building a new house within the grounds of an existing home.
A home for changing needs
Our retired clients wanted manageable accommodation that would support their changing needs. We designed generous, well-lit rooms with adaptable layouts, low maintenance requirements and space for a future lift. Low running costs were an important part of the brief.
Privacy, light and views across the fields
Careful positioning of Silver Birches protects privacy between the new and existing houses. It also minimises overshadowing and makes the most of views across the fields beyond.
3D models and visualisations
Cotswold Architects developed interactive 3D models and architectural visualisations to help the clients compare layouts and understand the spaces before construction. These images also supported early discussions with neighbours.
Moving in when the house was ready
The clients remained in their existing house throughout the build, moving into Silver Birches only when their new home was ready.
