A sensitive setting by the River Churn
Corinium Gate is located beside Cirencester’s Abbey Grounds and the River Churn. The property occupies a sensitive setting close to the exposed remains of the Roman town wall.
Adapting a home for changing needs
The retired owners appointed Cotswold Architects to explore how their house could be adapted to support their changing needs.
Extensions, remodelling and energy improvements
The scheme at Corinium Gate includes front and rear house extensions, internal remodelling and a garage conversion. Solar panels, external insulation and a rendered finish were added at the same time. Together, these measures improve the accommodation and the existing home’s energy performance.
Scheduled Monument Consent and protecting the river
The location required careful coordination of Scheduled Monument Consent, an environmental permit and measures to protect the watercourse during construction.
Improving an existing home in Cirencester
Corinium Gate demonstrates our approach as residential architects working in Cirencester: improving the usability of an existing home while responding to its historic setting and environmental constraints.
