A constrained former builder’s yard
Designed by Cotswold Architects, The Yard transforms a constrained former builder’s yard on Upper Park Street into a distinctive mews-style home. With neighbouring houses close to both sides of the site, the residential design required careful consideration of scale, proportions and its relationship with the street.
Reusing the site’s own bricks
Bricks salvaged from the original structures were reused in the new house at The Yard. This reduced waste and the need to transport new materials, while retaining a connection to the site’s history. This practical reuse of materials forms part of a considered approach to sustainable residential architecture.
Winning support for the design
Following initial planning concerns, Cotswold Architects explained the design through a site meeting with Cheltenham Borough Council, helping establish support for the proposal.
A Cheltenham Civic Award winner
The completed home received a Cheltenham Civic Award in 2023, with judges praising its proportions, brickwork and attention to detail.
